More day care centres in Riedberg

30.11.2011

A new day care centre is on the way as part of the urban development program at Riedberg. The new centre is being built on a site around 2,800 square metres in size, located in 'Altkönigblick' on Martin-Niemöller Straße. When completed it will offer space for around 93 children. It will be the ninth child care facility in Riedberg and the second in Altkönigblick. Building started on the 21st of August and it should be completed in December next year.
The design for the two storey building is from raum-z architekten from Darmstadt. Children, educators and housekeeping staff will share a total of 1,846 square metres of floor space. In total there are to be six group rooms: three groups are for kindergarten children and the other three are for children under three. The building is to be a solid construction executed to the highest energy efficient passive house standards. The building is clearcut, compact and has group rooms and kindergarten space oriented to the south. Rooms for carers, housekeeping staff, the kitchen and the multi functional room are in the north facing section of the building. The north facing windows are kept to a minimum while the south facing façade has glazed panels in keeping with low-energy building. The building is accessible via the wide 'play corridor' the connects multiple spaces on both floors. A large rooftop terrace is also part of the concept. The varying use of multiple materials for the façade accentuates the sculptural appearance of the building: The main section has light, amiable brickwork while the south facing balcony has vertical timber slatted panelling that creates a roof top terrace. The north entrance and the gap between the buildings to the south are further accentuated by coloured elements. The clarity and orderliness found in the outdoor area is inspired by the building itself. The project is being realised as part of Riedberg's urban development measures and the project management is being carried out by HA Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH on behalf of the city of Frankfurt am Main.
